We are pleased to share a new video showing how Ghana public libraries are helping young learners gain crucial digital literacy skills for academic success and future employment.
The video shows the impact of the two-year Digital Learning @ Ghana Public Libraries project (2023-2025), implemented by EIFL in partnership with the Ghana Library Authority in partnership and 15 regional and branch public libraries.
Librarians and library ICT staff visit schools in their areas to conduct short digital skills lessons with students aged from 12 - 18, and to open up new opportunities for learning by introducing the students to free and open online educational resources. The libraries also offer in-depth digital skills and information literacy workshops in libraries. Subjects covered include Microsoft Office applications, graphic design, computer coding, digital literacy and online safety.
By the end of 2024, the 15 libraries had conducted 120 outreach visits to schools, engaging almost 7,000 students, and organized 22 digital literacy workshops in libraries for 800 students.
The Digital Learning @ Ghana Public Libraries project is supported by the Internet Society Foundation through its Strengthening Communities, Improving Lives and Livelihoods (SCILLS) grants programme.
