EIFL has been working in Lesotho since 2001. We supported the creation of the Lesotho Library Consortium (LELICO), and through this partnership, libraries in Lesotho are providing access to a wide range of scholarly e-resources. EIFL agreements with publishers also allow authors in Lesotho to publish in open access in hybrid or fully open access journals at waived or discounted Article Processing Charges (APCs).
Libraries in Lesotho also benefit from EIFL programmes on open access and copyright.
EIFL is supporting the development of open access repositories, journal publishing platforms, research data management services, and the introduction of open science policies.
As a result of advocacy by EIFL and LELICO, Lesotho acceded to the Marrakesh Treaty for Persons with Disabilities in 2018, and we continue to advocate for copyright law reform to implement the Marrakesh Treaty and to support the work of libraries, education and research.
