The work of the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) is to feature at the 4th Africa Library Summit & 2nd African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) Conference.
EIFL-PLIP will organize an interactive panel titled ‘Public Librarians’ Continuous Professional Development’. The panel will engage stakeholders in discussing existing opportunities for professional development of public librarians in Africa, and how to enhance these to ensure that public librarians have the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to their countries’ development needs.
In addition, there will be two papers that feature EIFL-PLIP's work and impact:
- EIFL and partners Peer 2 Peer University (P2PU) and Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) will present a paper titled ‘Learning Circles Support Online Learning in Kenya’. The paper, by Grif Peterson (P2PU), Janet Sawaya, EIFL-PLIP) and Juliana Muchai (KNLS), is based on a pilot project that tests the Learning Circles model in an African context. The Learning Circles model supports online learners by combining online courses with face-to-face facilitation in the supportive environment of public libraries.
- Mary Kinyanjui, librarian at KNLS Kibera Public Library, will present a paper titled 'The role of Information and Communication Technology in knowledge development in Africa: The case study of Kenya ICT sector partnering with Public libraries'.
At a special ceremony during the conference, EIFL will present a trophies and certificates to the African winners of EIFL Public Library Innovation Awards for Improving Lives, ‘Cercle de lecture et d’animation culturelle’(Cameroon) and KNLS Thika Public Library (Kenya).
