The EIFL Copyright and Libraries Programme is delighted to announce that international copyright expert, Professor Kenneth D. Crews (ghplaw.com/Content/Attorneys/Kenneth_Crews.htm), will lead a webinar on 'Library copyright statutes around the world: trends and developments'.

Prof. Crews is an attorney, author, professor, and international copyright consultant. His research, policy-making and teaching over the last 25 years has centred on copyright issues of importance to libraries, education and research.

Most recently, Prof. Crews authored the WIPO study on copyright limitations and exceptions for libraries and archives that analyzed library copyright statues from 188 countries, work that is informing negotiations relating to libraries and archives at WIPO's Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) in Geneva.

The study identified library copyright provisions from every single WIPO member state, enabling for the first time a comparative analysis of what libraries worldwide may do, what activities are prohibited, and how laws are developing in response to new technologies.

What will the webinar cover?

The webinar will provide an overview of the findings of the WIPO study, identify regional patterns in library copyright provisions, and highlight developments and innovations in national laws. It will point to provisions that might be useful for libraries in other countries when their law is being amended.

Participants are encouraged to send questions in advance and to share their views.
