ABOUT THE AGREEMENT
OVERVIEW
EIFL has negotiated a free read & publish agreement with The Company of Biologists on behalf of authors from eligible EIFL partner countries. This means that corresponding authors from institutions that have signed read & publish agreements will not have to pay any Article Processing Charges (APCs) for open access publishing when an article is accepted for publication by any one of the journals published by The Company of Biologists: Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms, and Biology Open.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
The agreement is valid for three hybrid journals published by The Company of Biologists: Development, Journal of Cell Science, and Journal of Experimental Biology and two fully open access journals, Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open.
Below are the agreed terms:
No Article Processing Charges for corresponding authors from institutions that have signed read & publish agreements: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, Ghana, Latvia, Lithuania, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lesotho, Malawi, Maldives, Moldova, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, North Macedonia, Palestine, Senegal, Serbia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Our agreement also enables corresponding authors at any institutions in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, Ghana, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lesotho, Malawi, Maldives, Moldova, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, North Macedonia, Palestine, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Zambia, Zimbabwe to publish accepted research articles without paying Article Processing Charges in two fully open journals: Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open.
Article types:
- Article types covered: research articles, this means original research papers relating to original research.
- Article types NOT covered: review papers, commentaries, correspondence, corrections, additions, posters or any other content or material.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

Corresponding authors from eligible institutions will be automatically recognized when submitting their article to an eligible journal from The Company of Biologists and will be offered the applicable APC waiver.
Free publishing in two fully open access journals:
If you would like to submit your paper to Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open journals, your institution does not have to have a read & publish agreement. The corresponding author from an eligible country will be automatically recognised.
Information about how to apply for a waiver is provided at acceptance of manuscript. Authors will be sent a link to the RightsLink payment site, from where the waiver application form can be downloaded and then emailed to the office for review. This includes corresponding authors entitled to a waiver on the basis of country economy or membership of EIFL.On the form, you must indicate membership of EIFL.
